Meet Us!

Amersham A Cappella, previously known as Chiltern Harmony, is a highly successful, ladies chorus with a long history of excellence. We have over 30 members from all walks of life, diverse careers and backgrounds - but united in an enjoyment of music making. Our wide repertoire extends from traditional barbershop style songs, classic & contemporary ballads and show-stoppers through to up-beat jazzy and popular numbers.

As our name suggests, we are based in Amersham and our members travel from Bucks, Beds and Herts to our weekly Tuesday rehearsal.

The original chorus was formed in 1982 by wives and girlfriends of a local men’s choir who decided they’d like to explore a cappella singing. Ever since those early days, whether performing or rehearsing, our primary objectives are to make beautiful harmonious music and most importantly…to have great fun!

We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2007, and what a fantastic year that was!

Our silver anniversary show at the Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth was sponsored by a community grant from the Lottery Fund and was a sell out success. Then, winning a much coveted bronze medal at the National Chorus competition held by LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers) in October was the icing on our anniversary cake! There were 32 choirs in the competition so we were delighted to achieve third place. Hear us

We were also extremely proud of our resident quartet, NoteOrious who, for the second year running, also won a bronze medal.

In the past few years we have had many memorable moments performing in shows and events, at local theatres, for the Guilds of London (Mansion House and Drapers Hall), weddings, summer fetes, garden parties, church anniversary celebrations, schools, clubs, charity fundraisers, and at Christmas events throughout the Chilterns.

If you would like to book us – please do! We would be delighted to hear from you and can tailor the size of the group to your specific requirements. in action!

Meet our Musical Director

Our MD Helen LappertSince 2005, Amersham A Cappella has been under the direction of our extremely talented MD - Helen Lappert.

Helen joined the lead section of Chiltern Harmony in 1998. Inspired by MD Wendy Searle she became section leader and then assistant MD.

Hailing from a musical family, (grandmother was a violinist and great aunt founded the Chopin Society) Helen was encouraged through her musical and singing grades.

She has sung in choirs, music hall and as a member of a theatre group and now co-runs “The Singing Room”, teaching singing to groups of children and to groups of adults in Rickmansworth, Radlett and Watford.

Helen has boundless energy and enthusiasm and is committed to the success of the chorus.
