Meet Us
Amersham A Cappella, previously known as Chiltern Harmony, is a highly successful, ladies chorus with a long history of excellence. We have over 50 members from all walks of life, diverse careers and backgrounds – but united in an enjoyment of music making. Our wide repertoire extends from traditional barbershop style songs, classic & contemporary ballads and show-stoppers through to up-beat jazzy and popular numbers.
As our name suggests, we are based in Amersham and our members travel from Bucks, Beds and Herts to our weekly Tuesday rehearsal.
2012 has been great fun so far with events such as winning the Torquay Battle of the Choirs, singing at Twickenham on the pitch and our very own show to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. We have just returned from the National Convention where we won a SILVER medal and received standing ovations for all of our performances. We have now qualified to compete in the European Championships in Holland in 2013!
We have many bookings coming up and we will continue to spread the love of singing in close harmony. Hear us
If you would like to book us – please do! We would be delighted to hear from you and can tailor the size of the group to your specific requirements.
Over the past few years we have had many memorable moments. In 2010 we won the LABBS Gold Medal as well as the Good Housekeeping Choir of the Year! We enjoy performing in shows and events, at local theatres, for the Guilds of London (Mansion House and Drapers Hall), Claridges, weddings, summer fetes, garden parties, church anniversary celebrations, schools, clubs, charity fundraisers, and at Christmas events throughout the Chilterns.
Meet our Musical Director
Since 2005, Amersham A Cappella has been under the direction of our extremely talented MD – Helen Lappert.
♪ Helen joined the lead section of Chiltern Harmony in 1998. Inspired by MD Wendy Searle she became section leader and then assistant MD.
♪ Hailing from a musical family, (her grandfather was a violinist and great aunt founded the Chopin Society), Helen was encouraged through her musical and singing grades.
♪ She has sung in choirs, music hall and as a member of a theatre group and now runs “Singing Circle”, (www.singingcircle.radlett.info), teaching singing to groups of children and to groups of ladies from her base in Radlett, Hertfordshire.
♪ In addition to her conducting and teaching, she sings bass in an award-winning quartet NoteOrious (www.noteorious.co.uk). Helen has boundless energy and enthusiasm and is committed to the success of the chorus.
